Modified J9 without EOS mount attached - 2990
Kiev/Contax range finder Jupiter 9 lens. Modification for use with Canon EOS DSLR. Lens stripped down, old Kiev mount ground back leaving about 6mm left proud of shoulder. EOS mount and short ring taken from a cheap Chinese EOS lens extension tube. The short ring was ground slightly thinner so that lens fitted snugly. Difference in diameters was made up by applying tape so that lens and mount adapter had a tight fit (enough to stop rotation/movement when operating lens on camera. Lens reassembled minus range finder mechanism. Final adjustment to get infinity focus by grinding back one of the two lens group spacer rings (not very much adjustment here).
All grinding was done by hand with silicon carbide abrasive papers on a flat glass plate. Takes time, effort and some skill to keep flat and true. I took my time periodically reassembling lens and checking on camera for infinity focus to gauge how process was going.

Hi
First, a few words of caution:
If your lens is in a good sell-able condition, consider selling and buying an old silver or black SLR M39 or M42 mount lens. Originally my lens was in a very poor state, so I felt I had nothing to loose.
If you have the option use a lathe to remove material. Grinding by hand requires a certain skill/knack to keep flat and parallel.
When you open up the J9 you will find some spacing washers/rings, in my case two. I would avoid changing anything here, unless you run out of material to remove from the body. You can only remove a tiny amount from the spacers anyway. Too much and the aperture selector ring will bind.
If you feel your lens has little re-sale value, then go for it. But take your time, remove a little and reassemble and check. Repeat many times until infinity focus is achieved to your liking.
Good luck

I´m about to follow your steps to mod another copy of your Jupiter Lens. Please, do you have any other info about the process. I think I understand most of it, but I would like to understand better the adjustment on the lens groups to get infinity focus. Any help will be much apreciated. Thank you in advance.
